RE: The CAB service’s campaign to make Employment and Support Allowance Fit for Work
I am writing to you because I am very concerned that the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) benefit is failing sick and disabled people as well as other tax payers.
I was shocked to discover that last year the CAB service helped people with almost half a million problems with their ESA claims, more than any other issue. I am pleased to know that my local bureau is taking part in the national CAB service’s campaign to make ESA Fit for work. They are asking that:
the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) listens more to evidence from the health and social care professionals who know the claimant best and that this evidence should be provided free of charge
the companies running the work capability assessments (WCA) are held accountable for poor quality assessments or bad customer service
the DWP continues to pay people ESA while a second opinion is given on their application.
I have added my support to the campaign by signing Gary’s petition, for claimants to be paid ESA while their claims are reconsidered, and hope that you will consider adding your backing to this vital campaign to ensure that sick and disabled people receive the support they are entitled to when they are unable to work. Please sign the petition at http://chn.ge/1rXbl0E. You can find out more about the campaign at http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/fitforwork.
